Whilst Lancashire Constabulary does not advocate sexual acts in public places, we always work towards protecting people and supporting the victims and witnesses of any crime.
Sex in public places is not necessarily illegal however you must ensure that you cannot be seen by anyone who might be offended that you are having sex.
Anyone who engages in sex in public could find themselves charged with offences under the Public Order Act if the police have sufficient evidence to convince a court of law that the activity was witnessed (or there was a high likelihood of being witnessed) by another person.

If you do choose to visit a cruising ground, on arrival check that you know where the exits are and that you know how to get to them; particularly if it is dark.

If you do choose to visit a cruising ground, try not to carry a lot of valuables with you or large amounts of cash.

If visiting a cruising site, avoid confrontations, always shout for help if you need it and always inform the police if you spot any kind of trouble.

Lancashire Constabulary is working in partnership with a number of other agencies to support our communities who use these areas.
Every community is entitled to receive the same high quality of service whenever they have contact with the police. We would always encourage people to report to us any incidents or crimes in the knowledge that they will be treated fairly and with dignity and respect.
Gay and bisexual men are encouraged to report any violence or abuse, both homophobic and domestic.

Cruising advice - Caton area A683.

Our attention has been drawn to advice which Lancashire Police have posted elsewhere concerning two cruising areas near to Caton.
The areas are known locally as
BULL BECK PICNIC AREA and
CROOK O'LOON PICNIC AREA

Lancashire Police state that they are receiving a considerable number of complaints of "anti-social" behaviour during light hours at both locations.
Both of these locations are popular with Tourists for their scenic nature and as starting points for Ramblers. In the circumstances discretion should perhaps be the watchword.

Lancashire Constabulary has received a number of complaints in relation to Cuerdon Valley car Parks. Some are from website members about other users openly engaging in sexual acts and indecent exposure in particular during the hours of daylight. Please read our KEY MESSAGES.

As a result of an increase in complaints there may be an increase in police activity as part of our reassurance operation to reduce the number of complaints.
