Telephone numbers - a reminder!!

Contrary to advice given in our 'Using this Site' section mobile/telephone numbers are still being put in messages. Email addresses linked to mobile numbers have also been used.
These practices can have unfortunate repercussions and, for your own protection, are not approved.
The advice given in the section 'Using this Site' which was posted by the Board Administrator reads as follows:

Please do not include phone numbers in your messages. To enable other members and users of the site to contact you please supply an email address.
We prefer users not to include phone numbers because:

-We do not provide a facility to remove messages posted, if you change your mind your message could remain on line for sometime.
-Occasionally individuals post vindictive messages including other peoples phone numbers. All cases are investigated and information supplied to the originators ISP regarding the offence on request, wasting valuable time which could be used in developing this site.
-If you do wish to include a phone number please include it in a member profile, where email addresses are verified.

Remember also - your messages may be trawled by search engines such as Google and Yahoo and your details could appear on their websites. Whilst we can remove messages and details from Gaybod we cannot remove them if copied onto other websites.

For your own protection please accept our advice which is given with the experience of having to resolve issues for members and guests who have experienced problems after posting their mobile number, and do not include yours openly in your messages.

Connection to Gaybod Website

For personal reasons some Guys may not wish to store a Website as a Favourite or Bookmark which includes 'Gay' in the title.
There are some alternative URL's which do not include the word 'gay' but automatically transfer you to the Gaybod Website.

www.thecruisingground.com or www.thecruisingground.co.uk
Note 2 g's in cruisingground

Also:
www.cruisinground.co.uk
Note just a single 'g' in cruisinground

Pictures within messages
There has been an increase in the number of messages posted which include a photo image - usual of extreme dimensions.
Unfortunately this can have an adverse effect on the page format and make reading of that page difficult, if not impossible
and for that reasons any large pictures within messages will be deleted.
Where a picture is cropped to something like 50 or 75 pixel square it may, depending on it's contents, be acceptable.
This also applies to any picture attached to your profile.

As Gaybod is accessible to all without age restriction sexually explicit picture must not be included.
The picture associated with our Admin Title on the left is an approximation of the acceptable size.

Notifications by email - a reminder

Please read the information below which gives advice about setting up notification requests -
and please note, as it says below, that you only received notifications if you have requested them.

You will only receive notifications of messages if you have requested them - they are not sent automatically. Because you will have requested them they are not spam and should not be marked as such. If you do mark them as spam and we receive a complaint from your ISP we will advise them accordingly that you have received the items because you requested them and they are not unsolicited emails.
In those circumstances your ISP may withdraw your internet service and we will suspend your membership of Gaybod, so, remember, notifications are sent on request only and are not spam.

This advice is particularly important if your ISP is AOL as they monitor spam advice and will not take kindly to being advised that you are in recipt of spam when it is not actually spam. Be warned!!

Setting up notifications
Login to your profile and scroll down to the section 'Email Notification'
Decide which pages you would like to receive notifications for - eg. 'Stories' Groups, Saunas etc. then for those pages click on the CHOOSE icon. This will display all the options available for that page - eg All the Stories, All the Groups. Tick the boxes of the individual items you want to receive notifications for then click SAVE and that selection for that page will be saved. So, say within 'Stories' you have ticked 'caught in the act', 'real lives' and 'sex at work' you will only notifications for stories in that category.

Unfortunately the selection within "Meet Men and Cruising Information" can only be restricted to a Country eg. Britain, and it is not possible to select individual areas within the Country selected.
If you do select Britain you may find you are overwhelmed with emails and if this is the case then return to your profile and remove that request. (Note the opening paragraph of this message - if you are overwhelmed remove the request, do not mark them as spam because they are not.)
You may find the option 'Replies to my posts' will provide limited response.

Cancelling notifications.
To cancel any notifications login to your profile and uncheck all the requests you have made in the notifications section.
To reach your profile go to the Gaybod Home Page and click on the 'login' icon towards the top right of the page. Follow the prompts to display your profile.

If you have any problem contact admin@gaybod.com include your Username in the message and ask to have the notification request removed for you.

Be aware - be cautious

Below is the text of information we have received from one of our Members. It's contents are self-explanatory. Should you become aware of the Website concerned bear in mind the possible consequences of opening any links to it.

Member's comment
I am not sure if this is of interest to you and/or other members but thought I let you know anyway.
The message below is circulating on at least two other sites and the sites have removed it.
If anyone gets this and follows it through they will find they are banned from several sites and it is difficult to get back.
I know from experience.

Reporting messages which give you cause for concern

If you see a message which gives you cause for concern in any way please let us know by email to admin@gaybod.com

Please say in your email which section the message is in, the date of the message and the Username of the writer and your reasons for concern.

You will normally receive a fairly early response however, the admin mailbox is monitored on a part-time basis so, if you have not received a response within 24hrs please resend/forward the information by email to
abuse@ne1.info
indicating that the report relates to the Gaybod website - this is important as the abuse line responds to a number of websites.

Please also note, as stated within the "Using this Site" section, that Gaybod often receives requests from individuals to alter or remove historic articles.

Our policy is to not remove or make alterations to previous articles on request, unless factual inaccuracies are present or we are compelled to do so by a legal ruling. We do not make exceptions to this policy, as we feel it would compromise the integrity of our listings, and our value as a historic record.

Under data protection laws in Europe, individuals can apply directly to search engines to remove specific results for queries that include their name. Most major search engines including Google and Bing have procedures in place for this.

Gaybod, like most websites is trawled by many search engines and its contents stored.
Please be aware however that when material is removed from the Gaybod website it may continue to be seen on search engines such as Google and Yahoo (and others) and Gaybod cannot remove content from those

Posting new messages (Registered Members only)

When posting your messages please add only your Username and your password to confirm the messages.
DO NOT put anything in the email box - if you do it will show you as an unregistered guest and you will not be able to perform edits or deletes on the message.

Posting New Messages (To everyone.)
Please post your message just ONCE on the most appropriate page - do not post the same message on multiple pages - for example, if in London then just post in the area where you are going to be e.g. Central, or South - do not post it in every single area.
If on a County Border then choose one of the two Counties for your posting and complete the message with a comment like - "willing to travel locally"

To all registered members:

This advice has been added because we have recently been unable to confirm registration and send a "Welcome" message to some new members who have joined in recent days.

In order to receive mail and private messages from other members you have to ensure that your email platform will accept incoming messages from gaybod.com

If in doubt check your mail security settings and amend if necessary to permit mail from gaybod.com or simply to accept all incoming mail or add the address admin@gaybod.com to your contact list.
Any addresses you subsequently do not wish to receive mail from could be added to your blocked senders listing.

Guys - we have had to edit some recent messages and refuse others because they contained details which could possibly identify individuals.
This is of particular concern if the message is about a particular named location and persons visiting it:

Messages like: I was at XYZ layby today and had a great time with the driver of an ABC truck or 'I called at such-and-such a Motorway Services today and had a good time with the Cleaner'
It doesn't need emphasising we hope that there could be dozens of ABC Trucks, and several Cleaners at the location and less thoughtful individuals could assume they were meeting the 'friendly' one when infact they were not!!

Similarly anonymous 'warnings' about individuals, which include identifying material about that individual will be edited or refused.
References to a vehicle are not accepted as there could be others which fit the same description. Regrettably such 'warning' messages are often 'revenge' messages against someone who has rejected an advance!

This, and other advice on messaging are given in the 'Using this Site' page where a general message from the Administrator reads;

When writing your messages, please use the same courtesy that you would show when speaking face-to-face with someone. Flames, insults, and personal attacks will not be tolerated. It's fine to disagree strongly with opinions, ideas, and facts, but always with respect for the other person. Great minds do not always think alike, and that's where the fun is!
Also ensure that your message does not include any information which could result in the identification of individuals as such details could result in personal abuse and attack.
Things to avoid include personal descriptions, vehicle details, place of employment etc.
Also, note that messages express the thoughts of the writers, not the board or its moderators.

Please do not post the same message to lots of different areas of the noticeboard. A majority of users use the 'Last Day' function and your message will be found if you make the first line interesting to read.

When requesting help by email
it is essential that you provide some details for us to trace your profile or on-line messages.
Members should quote their Username and preferably write from the email address registered in their profile.
Guests should refer to the message they have posted, the page the message is on, it's date and the username they have used.

We have outstanding some enquiries that include no Username and have been sent from an email address which is not associated with any registered member.
We also have outstanding a query from an email address that is rejected as not existing so - to everyone - ensure that you send any enquiry from a email address which is correct and is set to receive replies from all Internet Service Providers.
If your email address is incorrect then you will not get a reply

Information requests.

Guys - during recent days we have received emails asking for information about cruising spots.
Please note All information we have is visible on the webpages by logging in to www.gaybod.com and selecting the required topic.
The Admin Team do not resource information because we are all volunteers working in our own time and do not have the facilities to travel the Country updating local information.
Information is supplied by Members and Guests and posted direct onto the web pages.
Our only exception in responding to emails is to post any information which is sent to us and considered urgent and which the informant prefers not to post themselves - even in those circumstances we may seek corroboration of such information and authentication of the source of that information.

Contacting others by Private Message or email

Increasingly Guys are inviting others to contact them by email or private message when such facility is not available because of their status as a Member or a Guest.

To clarify here is an extract from another message on this page about Identity Protection:

Private messages can only be exchanged between registered members.
Guests cannot send or receive private messages.
Guests who wish to be contacted can either put their email address in the box beneath their Username when posting a message (there Username will then be underlined and clicking on it creates an email link) or put their email address in their message.
Guests can only contact members who either include their email address in their profile or in their message.
Members can only contact guests who have their Username underlined to give an email link, or who have included their email in their message.

The status of a writer - whether they are a Registered Member or an Unregistered Guest - will be stated in the box beneath their Username

We see that recently there have been quite a few examples where members have posted a message, realised they have omitted something or made a mistake so have posted a second, almost identical message with the additions/corrections included.

On Gaybod (unlike many other websites) members can actually edit and/or delete their messages.
Details of how this can be done are given in the tips below.

See "If you make a mistake"

Help with posting messages

Message content
Some recent messages included information concerning vehicles and locations which could possibly have identified individuals and have resulted in them becoming the object of abuse so please do not include personal details, vehicles details or even telephone/mobile numbers in messages however innocent it may seem as these details could cause serious problems for those concerned.
Messages which include abusive and/or personal attacks on others or include derogatory remarks about others will be refused/edited/removed as appropriate. Removed items are retained out of public view and if writers are persistent with their abuse details will be forwarded to their Internet Service Provider for appropriate action which could include internet barring.

If unsure where to post
It you want to contact or meet others or you have information about a CRUISING SPOT - directions, warnings, best times etc. then post your message in the Meet Men & Cruising Information Section Guest postings will queue and wait until approved so will take longer to be displayed.

Use of BLOCK CAPITALS.
Please post your messages in standard lower case. BLOCK CAPITALS can cause problems with the format of your message and others in the thread and make them difficult or impossible to read.

If you want to use the odd word in CAPITALS to emphasise a point that is OK.
There are other ways of making your message different - See the section 'Using this Site'/Questions & Answers/How to make my message look different, for ideas.

If you make a mistake
Members who post a message and then find they have made a mistake or want to change something can do so. Just click on the EDIT icon in the top righthand corner of the message and an edit box will appear below the message with the message in it. Make the changes your require in the edit box, click 'Refresh Preview' to see if all is now OK, and if it is click on SAVE MESSAGE. Guests cannot do this.
To DELETE a message click on the DELETE ICON (X) in the top right of the message and follow the prompts.

Repeat messages
Some members like to repeat their messages from time to time so that they appear within the last day or last week. Please delete the older messages by clicking on the delete icon in the top right hand corner of the old message and following the prompts.
Guests cannot delete their messages.

Private messages
From time to time messages invite contact when it is not possible so, to clarify:

Private messages can only be exchanged between registered members.
Guests cannot send or receive private messages.
Guests who wish to be contacted can either put their email address in the box beneath their Username when posting a message (there Username will then be underlined and clicking on it creates an email link) or put their email address in their message.
Guests can only contact members who either include their email address in their profile or in their message.
Members can only contact guests who have their Username underlined to give an email link, or who have included their email in their message.

Protecting your identity - your use and choice of email addresses.

We constantly try to advise on the sensible use of email addresses. Unlike some websites we don't say don't use them but there are ways they can be used without them being trawled and stored on Search Engines - - Search engines like Google and Yahoo trawl the internet and gather up just about everything going so, if you put personal details in a message it is quite likely that anyone doing a Google search and using keywords they know about you - such as email address - will be directed to your postings and you may not want that so please read the tips below.

(1) Don't put your email address within the body of your message - put it outside the message.

MEMBERS - Allow your email address to be displayed in your profile then, in your message put a comment like 'click on Username to find email address'
All you need to do is check the box which allows you to display your email address.
Make sure you always have a current email address - you'd be surprised how may addresses on profiles are no longer current because members have changed their ISP and their email address but not updated their profile
Remember you can still send private messages to other members, but not to Guests.

GUESTS - Write your message, put in a Username, leave the password box empty because you don't have one, and put your email address in the email box - your Username will then appeared underlined.
In your message put a comment like 'click on my name for email link' and anyone doing so is automatically taken to their email platform where they can send you an email to the address you have given.

The above advice is continually displayed but we still receive requests from Guests to remove email addresses and other details displayed within messages because the writer later regrets including them. We will not remove them unless there are exceptional circumstances.
NB - This applies to Guests only. Registered Members can always delete their own messages.

(2) Use a 'special' email address.

Your Internet Supplier will require you to have an email address - we will call that your prime address - for registration and formal purposes however most ISP's allow you to create a number of additional email addresses. Some ISP's enable you to create what are 'disposable' addresses - ones you can delete if any problems occur - Yahoo is a typical example where you can create up to 500 disposable addresses.
If you get spam messages, or abusive messages on disposable addresses just go into your Internet Account and delete them. Anyone sending to that address has the message rejected.

It is a sensible option to use your prime address for formal purposes only and to create another email address to cater specifically for individual tastes like Gaybod messaging.

(3) Create what we will call a hard address - one with a mixture of letters and numbers, even underscores or hyphens. This makes it harder for spammers to predict your address and annoy you.
Soft addresses like onlylooking@blabla.co.uk are easy for spammers to predict where as harder addresses like only-looking@blabla.co.uk are more difficult to predict.
Where your chosen address permits use a number instead of a letter - 'i' and 'o' allow for this so in the above examples you could have 0nlyl00k1ng@blabla.co.uk or 0nly-l00k1ng@blabla.co.uk

We hope the above helps you to have a safer experience on Gaybod. We can only help you so far: the rest is up to you.

Personal identities

Messages which include personal contact details such as Skype or Kik Usernames will be edited or refused - in much the same way as messages which include mobile telephone numbers.

If you wish to give Skype, KIK, Mobile or other details to Guys then it must be at your own risk via private message, email or word of mouth when you meet.

Site Co-ordinates

The recent upgrade to Android Lollipop may lead to the degree sign (°) showing up in the co-ordinates as a question mark in the Font used by “Gaybod" on your smartphone. We are therefore in the process of changing the “degrees, minutes & seconds co-ordinates" to simple co-ordinates as used in many GPS systems. This has the added advantage of being able to automatically connect the site to Google Maps.

Just right click on the underlined coordinate on the site or touch it on the screen of your smartphone and you will immediately be taken to Google Maps (sometimes you have to open a new tab). This brings up a map showing the exact position of the co-ordinates on the map. You can then click-on the routing icon, choose whether you are going by car, public transport, walking or cycling and then put in your postcode for your present position (unfortunately the present location button doesn’t seem to work) and you will have a step-by-step description of how to get from there to the site.
