Just been this evening. Place is in complete disrepair, sheets of paint peeling off ceilings and walls. Private areas and all ripped and have detritus around the mats. Locker room is rusty, I checked out a few of the open lockers and all were broken and filthy. The fact I check out a few OPEN locker, NOT the lockers locked, to compare the disrepair offended the deputy manager. A small number of the staff are not so friendly and passive aggressive. I handed back my membership card to be told, "Okay, I'll just give it to someone else". Think the Data Protection Act will have something to say about that!“ very VERY INDISCREET and UNSAFE statement. It maybe the deputy manager was over emotional but that is not what you say to a guy in a gay sauna where discretion is the main foundation of the establishment of this nature. AVOID it is too dangerous. |

Update Review: I returned here on 7th August 2017. This time I can write a review with the benefit of fresh memory. Facilities: 3/5 Little has changed in five years & a refurbishment is needed. This time the steam room was functional with a pleasant dark room at the back, although narrow & winding it is a decent size. The sauna was larger & better than I recalled. The downstairs showers are looking tatty with soap dispensers that don't work, broken towel hooks & mismatched shower heads. The jacuzzi was unchanged & still in good shape. Upstairs the cruise areas still look tatty but there was a reasonable sized dark room I'd forgotten whilst I retract my statement about the space being poorly utilised. A second set of showers is located opposite the sauna. Daytime TV plays in a sofa room that really should have porn. There are PC terminals. The canteen area has comfy seats (a little frayed) & tables. A limited menu of food & drink is available but no tab system is operated on your locker key. You must pay immediately. Staff: 2.5/5: One was pleasant & helpful. The other spoke English as a 2nd language & only understands Scottish accents clearly. Non Scots will have to speak very clearly. Clientele: 3/5 On a Bank holiday Monday it was remarkably slow. Most of the crowd were older with a couple of younger guys mixed in. They were much friendlier than last time & more sociable. This might be a reflection of the time of day (Afternoon) that I visited. Overall: 3/5 Although it had barely changed from memory I think I was a little harsh last time. Still it is tatty around the edges & the staff must be exposed to more accents in a city as busy as Glasgow. Having to visit your locker to fetch your wallet to pay on demand for items is inconvenient. Tap water must be requested as no jug or fountains exist. A moderate refurbishment could bring this place up another 05-1pt. With no sauna competition left in Glasgow they can get away with this underinvestment which is a shame because this place could really be special with a little effort. Access is gained from an obscure side lane via a lift (Level 1). Just a short walk from the main shopping district & behind St Enoch shopping centre. Multi-storey car parks are nearby, cost unknown. |

Facilties: 2.5/5 Another large sauna with poorly utilised space. The jacuzzis is large & impressive. During my visit the steam room was out of order but it looked okay. The sauna box was typical. The cruise areas were tatty looking. Staff: */* I don't recall them & it will have changed by now. Clientele: 2.5/5 The guys were all white & of mixed age ranges & physical attractiveness (Saturday night). Whilst some guys were friendly others were outright aggressive. In the sauna box one late middle aged (or just very haggard) guy did everything he could to keep the door ajar (yes partially open) therefore releasing the heat. Each time someone closed it upon entry it he complained fiercely, going so far as to try & fight with a twenty something in shape lad. I believe the young guy left the sauna premises completely. The skinny twinkies sought safety in numbers & rarely ventured outside their group. Life hadn't be kind to some of the rougher guys in here. Overall 2.5/5 My visit was in Sept.2012, things might of changed. I can only recommend this sauna simply because the others I visited in Glasgow were even worse (1/5). As the biggest sauna in the largest Scottish city it was somewhat of a let down. Furthermore its located in an edgy part of town so be on the alert as you walk to it, I did observe a police patrol in the area. Weekend Violence played a part during my visit but even if that hadn't happened the facilities left room for improvement. Despite my poor rating I will return because I fancy Glaswegian guys so much & this is the only half decent sauna in town. I might just be another idiot wasting my money though. |
