Leicester now has four saunas which may be an overkill for a city of about 330,000 population. Three of the saunas are relatively small and Splash, the fourth, is large.

Two of the saunas, Splash and Amigos are very close to each other in the centre of the city where it is quite difficult to park unless you are prepared to pay. Celts is on the edge of town and there is parking in neighbouring streets which are mainly metered. Facilities are probably best in Splash and Amigos, whereas Celts City is oriented towards TVís.

Therefore when visiting Leicester you have quite a choice.

Facilities: 2/5 Almost as small as its sister branch but clean. The steam room is small but pleasant, a reasonable sized sauna box & a disappointing hot tub. This place is really to small to cruise.

Downstairs is a dungeon. The stairwell is cold & communal, notices advise you of this & you are supposed to don a robe for the trip down to the basement in case you pass a non sauna user. This communal stairwell isn't open access to the general public, just other building tenants & I never saw another user during my short stay. None the less I didn't like the idea & found it left the two sections disjointed.

Staff: 5/5 Judith is unfailingly polite.

Clientele: -/- or 2/5. Why the odd answer, because it was so quite during my stay that their was virtually no one to rate. The only other customer I interacted with with was very polite & had it not been for him my visit would have been a total waste of money. The other customers (a Transvestite & straight guy) remained isolated in the dungeon the entire time.

As a swingers club, men (straight, bi, gay & TV's) are mixed in with women. When I was leaving a heterosexual couple came in through the door. Age range & ethnicities were mixed among the other now five customers.

Overall: 1/5 £18 male entrance fee is much to steep for the facilities on offer (women free). As a gay guy this was my first visit to a mixed sauna & I was curious to see how this worked socially. My impression was that for the regulars it does, & if its your sort of thing the vibe here seemed positive with an intimate atmosphere.

For my needs this place was a total failure, it was much to small & boring. I've learned that mixed saunas aren't going to my thing at all. Granted it was quite due to Christmas shopping but I didn't feel compelled to come back on a better day. The entrance fee is stunningly expensive & reflects that of a swingers club & not a gay sauna.

There's a suana in the back streets of the city centre. "Splash" in New Bond Street (Renamed City Celts). It's small but very lively with a cross section of types and ages.
